Working with Kaylin Isler on Lower Body Mechanics - Golf swing

Training on "unstable" services is a very popular thing to these days. In golf many times, golfers are asking to perform swings on foam rollers or other unstable platforms in an effort to promote balance and better proprioception and stability. Unfortunately unless a golfer has good lower body mechanics, which most even at elite levels do not, you are actually going to degrade lower body power input and negatively impact weight shift and torque patterns.

The one unstable surface we have found that promotes good lower body mechanics at the same time providing an unstable platform is the Reebok Core Board.

In this video post I have chosen excerpts from a progressive skills training (PST) workout with zenoLINK/welch-e technologies sponsored professional golfer Kaylin Isler. Training took place at Total Concept Golf in Southlake, Texas outside of Dallas. In this video we discuss the use of a Reebok Core Board as a unstable surface which provides feedback and training while at the same time helps to promote effective lower body mechanics.

Amy Hung Yoga

video blog: Amy Hung, YOGA

We have incorporated yoga into our PST training for athletes. Yoga is an incredibly powerful way to create range of motion, strength, function and promote positive energy flow. However, we took it one step further...

welch-e technologies collaborated with yoga instructor, Kris Marks (kris on twitter), to create a yoga program that utilizes traditional yoga concepts but blends our movement pattern development techniques (PST). The result is a one-of-a-kind yoga program that has incredible impact on mind, body, spirit and activity/sport specific FUNCTIONAL PERFORMANCE.

This video blog contains excerpts of Kris taking LPGA golfer Amy Hung through the basics of a program designed specifically for rotational distal end acceleration sports like golf !

Amy Hung Functional Training 1

video blog: Amy Hung, Functional Training 1

The Monday after the Corning Classic, which just happened to be Memorial Day, LPGA golfer Amy Hung spent the day at welch-e technologies. We re-zenoLINK tested her, analyzed the data with her and refined her training program to fit her functional movement needs, general training needs and to fit her current playing schedule.

We captured much of the day on video for a cool video blog look inside all the different things Amy is doing to improve her functional movement and power output.

This clip is some excerpts from me taking her through a functional speed interval workout specifically desgined for her movement patterns needs.

LPGA Corning Classic

This week is the LPGA Corning Classic. Due to economic reasons and dwindling sponsors, etc. this will be the last year for the long standing LPGA event.

We are testing and training a number of LPGA golfers in conjunction with Adam Schriber including Candie Kung, Morgan Pressel, Amy Hung and Angela Park... so I made my way over to the course yesterday to watch them practice (our office is about 45mins from Corning in Endicott, NY).

These women are amazing golfers and athletes. I have spent alot of time around the PGA and men's golf in general and not so much if any around the LPGA until recently as we started to work with many LPGA and Futures tour players. Let me tell you, they can play and it is great to watch! In addition the atmosphere is much more low key and enjoyable than the PGA.

In addition, we are a part of training a number of women tour / college golfers and I can tell you they train like serious athletes. We have them cranking out kettlebell circuits, high intensity intervals, explosive plyometrics and they can hang with anyone in the gym or on the course. They take their golf and training super serious.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend checking out the Corning Classic or any LPGA event... you won't be dissappointed!

Savannah

We have been crankin at an incredible pace since last year. But the day to day business of keeping up with data flow and analysis has kept me from special projects, relationships and new business development.

I got an opportunity to head to Savannah, GA for 4 days last week, and thought it would be a great opportunity to re-charge the batteries while at the same time re-connecting on projects and with business development opportunities that I have not had time to give my attention. Boy was I wrong!! The pace of new clients, data flow, analysis and the issues that go with it, just keeps increasing and followed me to GA :( ... you know they say, the best laid plans!

oh well, I am not complaining, because that just means that our business continues its growth cycle and thats an amazing thing, especially in this economy! We have worked hard for 14 years to be in this position so it's not a surprise, but can be a bit overwhelming at times...

One of our big initiatives right now is adding staff... but it takes time to get the right people and the right fit... basic digitizing/data processing staff is one thing but more advanced biomechanics staff is a totally different ball game.

It's crazy here at welch-e, but its all GOOD !
